ALABAMA

Original source: ALABAMA.htm

FEBRUARY 21

We arrived at the new resort today after a very wet drive along route 10, safely.  We got all set up and headed out to look around before deciding to go swimming.  The resort looks like it's nice from what we have seen so far.  After swimming we watched a movie (at a volume level of 15) because of the rain storm.  We had some pretty wild weather today with tornado/ flood watches tonight.

FEB. 22

We all slept today until 11:00. We were up a few times during the night with all the thunder lighting and sounds of the rain storm.  Today we traveled into town and stopped at the place our RV was first purchased at before we bought it.  We checked out new ones, and finally got the spring loaded door handle we have been looking for.  We talked with a really nice salesman named Skip.  We went inside and found out the RV is still close in value to what we had paid for it.  A lot of people have told us we really did get a great deal.

On Sunday afternoon we headed into Mobile Alabama, to a Mardi Gras Parade.  We ended up at a great spot and ended up with tons of stuff. After the parade we ate lunch at Subway before heading back to catch the night parade, and again ended up with a huge hall of things.  Nikole was handed a huge stuffed bunny. We ended up with over 200 sets of beads, 10 stuffed animals, Frisbee's, cups, coins, moon pies, and other trinket toys.  There is a parade everyday for the next 10 days.

Today we woke up and went swimming. We hung around the resort for a while before heading back to Mobile to find the mall, and Target. After the stop at the stores we headed back to the city and went to another parade. Again the kids ended up with lots of stuff.  It's just amazing the amount of things that are being thrown into the crowds. Tonight's parades actually were two parades, one from a cancellation the week before. After the parade we ended up eating at a great restaurant called O'Charley's.  It had awesome food, we will be back. I have seen a few around, but it was the first time we tried one.

March 4,

We have spent the last week or so seeing parades.  We must have been to at least 10 in the past week.  We have way to many beads, stuffed toys, and moon pies. We sent a lot of it back home to the kids, and gave tons of thinks away.  We still have at least 400 sets of beads left.

While here we finally dumped the air mattress, and bought a feather bed along with a piece of foam.  The bed is now very comfortable, and warm. And we end up with more room on the sides of the bed again. The air mattress took up extra space.

We did get to go to a great beach while here.  The beach is called Gulf Shores, and has white sandy beaches with tons of shells. We even took Elaine and Meg (Elaine's dog) with us the second time we went.  Elaine is a nice woman (from New York) we meet back in Texas, who is also traveling the country. We have meet up at a few different resorts and will meet up in one in Florida next week.

We are leaving Alabama on Friday the 7th.  That day is also Michelle's birthday.  Nikole and I went to the store and got her some things, along with a chocolate cake and strawberries.  We served her breakfast in bed and the kids gave her all her gifts. We made her wait until we arrived in Florida to eat the cake.

We really like Alabama, and the homes seem reasonable.  We may be back to this area again. While here at this resort we meet up again with some very nice people that I had helped out in Louisiana. They will be building a home in Tennessee this year, sometime late summer. We may be going to spent some time working for them. I hope that works out I really like Tommy and Gayle.

Michelle and I have been really thinking on buying and selling homes. We are thinking on getting a few fixer homes and then reselling them. There have been some great opportunities brought before us and we should been acting on them soon.
