January 11 We arrived in Arizona on Wednesday the 8th. Our plans at this time is to only be here for a week. We are in a town called Camp Verde, just under Sedona. While here we plan on seeing Sedona, Flagstaff, And the Grand Canyon. Our drive to our destination ended up being at least 7 hours, with stops in between. We drove the last half of the journey in the rain. The weather in this area at this time of year is in the high 60's during the day to the low 40's at night. We are expecting to see snow in the Flagstaff area as well as in the canyon. Our reason for only a short stay is because we are heading east. We should be back in the Massachusetts area sometime late March early April. We may be back to this area next fall. After the stay in Arizona we are headed into New Mexico, then Texas. Our next stop will be in Rockport Texas, on the Gulf Coast side. It should take us at least three days to reach our destination. Yesterday January 10th we went to explore some ancient ruins. We went to a place called Montezuma Castle. It was a home built into the side of a cliff. A few days later we took the ride up to the Grand Canyon. The ride in took about 3 hours. There was snow on the ground in spots on the way in. The weather was cool, but nice. We explored most of the stopping points, and even found a few deer. Nikole and Zakary were checking out some snow and had noticed some deer tracks. We they told me about there findings I had looked to the side and saw them standing just a few feet away from them. The deer came as close as 3 feet away from the kids. They were as tame as could be. We tried to stop at all the viewing points in the Canyon. The kids picked up a Junior ranger program, and we completed it before heading home. The each received junior ranger badges, and they are real proud to have do it. We spent the rest of our week here mostly hanging around the resort. On Wednesday morning we packed up and headed south east towards Tucson. Tuesday night we meet some really nice folks and spent the evening talking to them about the RVing life style. Although or time was short spent in this area, we do hope to come back next year and explore this area some more. We stopped in Tucson at a Campers World to get some things and finished out the ride into New Mexico. |
