8/17115 Well as stated in the Wyoming page our first stay in Idaho was in Island Park. It's location is about thirteen and a half miles from the West Gate of Yellowstone. We have since moved and right now we are in Declo Idaho. We are about fifty miles East of Twin Falls. We will be in this area for two days, before moving on to Mountain Home Idaho a little further west. While in the Twin falls area we will explore the Shoshone Falls. It's a place Michelle and I discovered while traveling seven years ago. It's along the snake river and it plunges two hundred and twelve feet. To reach it we will have to cross over one of the highest bridges in the world. It's a higher Fall than Niagara Falls it's just not as wide. It's pretty neat how they control the water by splitting it up and diverting half of it to the farm lands close by. They can actually stop half of the falls. We will be here in Declo until Saturday before moving on to the next stop. When we get Mountain Home we will go explore a place called CRATERS of the MOON. It's a place where the landscape is all made up from old lava flow's. This sight is so massive, it can easily be seen by the space shuttle. Last time there I literally picked up a piece of lava that was like four feet wide by two feet thick, and it only weighed about ten pounds. The whole area is black as coal. We should been here in Idaho until Tuesday morning. 8/17 Yesterday we spent the day exploring the area. Our first stop was a place called City of Rocks National Reservation. If you look on a map it's located just above where Nevada, Utah, and Io touch by a town called Almo. It was a very interesting place. Great for rock climbers. After traveling through the mountains we finally reached this place where the rocks just seemed to jet out of the earth. We ended up going on a hike and to doing some climbing of the rocks ourselves. We climbed up the huge rock and Nikole found a great page to have a picnic. The rock had a few nooks and cranny's. I found a great one the put me in the reclining position, ahh. Zakary leaned right in and we sat and ate our whole lunch in that position watching nature. A few rocks over there was a group climbing up. We think that rock climbing will be one of Nikole's favorite things to do when she gets older. It was a fourteen mile drive back out of the area on a dirt road. A cattle truck passed us at one point and kicked some rocks onto the windshield of the jeep. Needless to say our windshield has three cracks in it at this time. We then headed to the Snake River and Shoshone Falls located in the Twin Falls area. The falls were disappointing because the time at which we were there the water was being diverted to the farm lands. So the Falls were just a trickle of water. It was still nice to see, and we did enjoy the view. We also walked across one of the world's highest bridges spanning the Snake River. If you remember Evil Knievel, He once jumped across the river back in 1974. Right about in the same area we were in, just down the street. The launch ramps in which he used are still in place. We were also going to take in a rodeo at the fair that was happening in town, but decided against it since it was already after nine by the time we got back. Today, Saturday 8/17 we are headed for a town called Mountain Home. It's located just north west of Twin Falls. We will be here for a few days. We need to do a oil change on the R.V., so Wal-Mart here we come. Last week we did one on the jeep. We have arrived, here at a campground called Fort Running Bear. It was a very dusty ride in to the campsite. It was 3 1/2 miles from the main road, on a dirt road. The good thing is there is a nice pool, Jacuzzi, mini golf, and free internet access. It's very quiet here, with mountain views all around. I don't know what we will be doing here besides relaxing. They have bingo, and a potluck supper tonight, and breakfast in the morning. Hmmm... I do know we will go see Craters Of The Moon, maybe tomorrow. After leaving Idaho we will then travel through part of Oregon, along route 84 up to Washington state. There are three scheduled stops in Washington state, which will take up the better part of three weeks in that state. Our first stop is more inland middle part of the state. Then we will be staying close to Seattle for a week, and then right on the ocean for a week. And then back to Oregon for a weeks stay on the ocean around September 11th. I am sure no one will ever forget that date. It is also a good friend Lori's Birthday along with Sharon, Michelle's sister in-law, my uncle Tom, and cousin Jody. And it just happens to be the day Michelle and I married nine years ago. But more on that as the time gets closer. So far this trip has been great. We have been using 85 octane gas, which ranges in prices from $1.45 to as high as $1.60. It's unusual for us to be using 85 octane instead of 87, but both vehicles are doing great with it. The speed limit for the past four or five states has not been lower than 75 mph. And we have pictures of speed limit signs to prove it. We are starting to feel out of place by not wearing a cowboy hat and jeans, ( Wranglers ) not Levi's. We have had only two or three days that it had rained at some time, either night or day but only a few hours at a time. We have met about a hundred and fifty really nice people that we hope to stay in touch with, during and after this journey. We don't miss the daily grind of work. And God has blessed us in all and everything we've done or about to do. We do miss many of you, and we pray for you and thank God for all of you. |
